I made this website and I’m writing this blog because I love writing and think it’s a valuable skill, but I care way too much about what people think.
I’ve tried writing blogs via Instagram in the past. The problem with trying to blog on Instagram is that if the account is public, people you know will find their way to it. If it’s private, you might as well just be writing in a journal (which I already do).
This is like my little private corner of the internet for now. It’s the perfect mixture of public and private for me. Sure, maybe eventually someone will find it. I think that would be fun!
Maybe it’s also about the platform. One thing I love about this website is that my writing is the main point, not the view counts. I’m not feeding things into an algorithm and being compared and trying to optimize for clicks and views. I can just write.
I’ve tried vlogging before too. I’ve always wanted to make a YouTube channel and post consistently, but I’ve found that I usually make one video and then delete it, or can’t stick to a consistent schedule or topic, and then I give up.
Here, I can exercise the muscle of having ideas and turning them into things that people can digest and take something from. I can practice organizing my thoughts. I can also practice not caring about getting everything perfect before I post. That allows for more output, which helps me see what topics I gravitate to most.
If you asked me for one reason why I started this website and blog, I couldn’t give you one. Honestly, it’s just an experiment. I don’t know exactly what it’s for yet and I think that’s part of the fun of it.
